A healthy lifestyle is being overcomplicated too much. It can be pretty simple with these five tips.
Monday morning. A new week with new opportunities to eat healthy and go to the gym. Unfortunately you don't have time for breakfast. And it's really busy at work, so you skip lunch. Around 3 pm, the cookie jar is screaming your name. And at dinner, no one wants to join you with your healthy salad. By the end of the day, you're too tired for the gym. And before you know it, it’s Friday. Sounds familiar?
1. A little preparation
To make life easier, you need a little preparation:
- A standardised grocery list with basic items, that you can copy paste every week
- Basic items could be: whole grain bread, pasta or rice; fruits and vegetables, lean meat, fish, dairy or a plant-based protein.
- 1 hours on the weekend (block your calendar for that, that helps!)
- A freezer and a heater
2. Prep your meals in only 1 hour
With only 1 hour of preparation on the weekend, you can eat healthy breakfast, snacks, lunch and dinner for a whole week.
3. Use the freezer
Prepare whole grain sandwiches with lean meat or fish and freeze them. Put them in your bag in the morning and they will be ready to eat by noon. Add some snack tomatoes and you’re ready for lunch. You can do the same for dinner by simply preparing several recipes of meat, fish or chicken once a week. Just add some fresh veggies and you’re done in a few minutes. Bonus: freezing and reheating meals lower the amount of carbs in your meals.
4. Fruit, veggies and gym bag in sight
Put fruit and veggies in sight. Because whatever is in sight, gets eaten. Also, put your gym bag inside, because whatever is in sight, gets attention. And what gets attention grows. So simple.
5. Always have your gym clothes with you
Always have your gym clothes with you so you can go to the gym right before or directly after work. Don't overthink it, just do it.
