How to keep your healthy habits, when your routine is disrupted because of a business trip or you have to stay home to take care of a sick family member? The key: Act as if as much as possible.
Tip 1: Pretend you are at the office
- Set your alarm clock, put on your business suit and “go” to work.
- Move around like you would at the office: walk around, take the stairs even though you’re not really going anywhere.
- Have lunch at lunchtime, if possible go outside for a walk.
- Create a workspace that is not in your sight 24/7 and you can “leave” fromat the end of the day, just as your office.
- Stick to regular working hours as much as possible. Leave your phone and laptopon your desk.
- Go to bed at regular hours.
Tip 2: Pretend you are at the gym
- Plan your workouts in your agenda and put your gym bag in sight
- Find the nearest gym or google Hotel workouts
- Put on your gym clothes
- Call your workout buddy and do a workout together as an online conference call
- Set goals: how many burpees are you going to do in your room today?
- Share your goals with your buddies and support each other with an online high five!
Tip 3: If you want to eat healthy, do it!
- Buy or order groceries: veggies, fruits, whole wheat products, meat, fish, vegetarian alternatives. A disrupted routine is not an excuse to buy sweets or alcohol.
- In case you have temptations laying around: throw or give them away!
- Prepare your meals like you would normally do and eat at regular hours. Or, ask the hotel or conference place to prepare a healthy meal to your likes.
Tip 4: Put reminders in sight
What is in our sight, gets our attention. And what gets attention, will grow. So put your gymbag, a bowl of fruit or a meditation mat in sight.
